American tourists are significant spenders in Europe, outspending German and French travelers by a considerable margin. Experts note that Americans tend to book multi-day trips and spend more on average daily, which is highly valued by the European tourism industry.
“They love to see American tourists. Even though there's, you know, a lot of backlash, the numbers of tourists and a lot of places like Barcelona, and then they talk to this man who worked at a boat company and in Greece, and he said, you know, Europeans, they come and they just buy an ice cream and they sit on a beach, but Americans they spend money and they do trips, they stay for several days.”
“In Spain, Americans spent $350 a day last year, compared to about $200 for Germans and $150 for French travelers.”
