The Trump administration has lifted export control directives on Anthropic's advanced AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5. The initial ban, citing a "jailbreak issue" allegedly discovered by Amazon, had halted access for many users. The reversal comes after Anthropic pushed back, suggesting similar vulnerabilities exist in other major AI models.
“So, the first sort of salvo in this, uh, dispute was on June 12th, which was the day that we officially left for our break. Very good timing by the US government when the Commerce Department issued an export control directive shutting down access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5, the most powerful versions of Anthropic's models.”
“Last Friday, Anthropic and the Trump administration, uh, reached a sort of tentative deal allowing Anthropic to restore access to Mythos, uh, for some clients. Um, and then on Tuesday night, news broke that the Commerce Department was lifting those export controls and restrictions on Anthropic's models.”
“So effectively, Anthropic said, hey, uh, you know, we like adding another safeguard, but really, this is an industry thing. Don't point fingers at us about this.”
