Ankur Crawford discussed the insatiable demand for compute power in the AI space, noting that despite massive investments, there's still a shortage. She suggested that current supply chain limitations, such as shortages of chips, power, and skilled labor, are naturally capping market growth, preventing oversupply. She believes this is a blessing, allowing for sustained growth rather than a short-term boom.
“But six hundred and fifty billion dollars seemed like a really big number. Yet we are still short compute, right, you're hearing from the hyperscalers we do not have enough.”
“The fact that we don't have plumbers and electricians to actually work in their data centers. Is capping the growth of data centers, and so it is allowing for duration versus kind of having a one time growth pop and which you were not going to pay a high multiple for.”
“So I think oversupply is a function of how much we put into the ground and how we use it.”
