Rebecca Anderson outlined four historical chapters of the US economy, each defined by leadership in a specific industry driven by innovation. “One really central element of all US history has been its capacity to reinvent itself over time. If we look back at 250 years of US history, we outline four historical chapters as we call them. Each of them was defined by the US leading in some major industry or segment of the global economy.”
“So there was this S curve, you know, very a very costly term there, but this manufacturing growth that was taking place in this first historical chapter that then really set up the US for success in that second chapter, which is the US industrial revolution, that took place post Civil War.”
“It was during this era, between the US Civil War and about World War II, that the US became the world's leading economy and world leader in industry in terms of industrial and manufacturing output and so on.”
