Federal Reserve statements have become significantly shorter and more direct under the new chairmanship of Warsh, compared to the more verbose and templated statements of former Chair Powell. This new format, with fewer paragraphs and shorter sentences, is easier to digest but lacks forward guidance.
“We've gone from five paragraphs of three sentences each to four paragraphs of two sentences each. And each sentence is short and declarative.”
“There is no forward guidance. There is nothing about what they will watch. There is nothing about what they will do. There's no if then statement.”
“So Chairman Warsh, uh, in both of these statements, the last sentence is, the committee will deliver price stability. That's just, we're going to do it. Full stop.”
