Consumers are showing hesitation towards agentic commerce, where AI makes purchases on their behalf, and have not widely adopted advanced virtual try-on hardware like smart mirrors. ChatGPT has scaled back its instant checkout features, indicating a consumer preference for more interactive AI experiences over fully automated purchasing.
“Agentic commerce, which is sort of the chatbot making the purchase on your behalf. We are seeing that consumers and retailers are not adopting that as expected. So ChatGPT has rolled back its, you know, instant checkout, so to speak. And has leaned more into recommendations and the interactivity, less on making the actual purchase. Which I think shows that there is a hesitation to sharing your personal information, your address, your login details, your credit card. I think people aren't quite there.”
“Yeah, I think, you know, speaking of virtual try-on, we saw smart mirrors. I think we all remember there was a phase where like these very technical smart mirrors could analyze your face, or overlay stuff on your face. I don't think those took off. I think they were very expensive, they were very techy.”
