President Zelensky explained that Ukraine's attacks on Russian energy infrastructure are a response to Russia's actions, particularly on Ukrainian electricity and civil infrastructure. He stated that a ceasefire on energy attacks would signal de-escalation and a step towards ending the war.
“The attack on our electricity, we have to respond on their, uh, painful moments, some sensitive moments, like energy.”
“That's why our signal is next that ceasefire on energy doesn't matter what energy you use or your people use. So ceasefire on energy is time to end the war.”
“If you decided not to attack critical infrastructure, it means critical infrastructure. There is a list of critical infrastructure. And I think all the respected leaders of nations have to know what does it mean. Not to attack energy.”
