Eddie Lazareyn criticizes the concept of 'AI alignment' as sometimes resembling religious thinking, advocating instead for robust technical controls and cybersecurity measures. He argues that focusing on redesigning the AI (the 'deity') is less effective than building resilient systems that can manage even highly capable beings.
“The alignment is kind of this, uh, it's almost like a religious thinking almost. It's like, you know, trying to, uh, redesign the deity a little bit, instead of rooting yourself in the world and saying, Well, we need to design better controls, better cybersecurity, you know, design better systems overall and design the systems to be truly resilient, even extremely capable beings.”
“AI are much more interpretable by virtue of, you know, being able to look at the weights and figure out the connections between them. And more steerable for the same reason.”
