Jengyau Jang, CEO of Weko AI, claims their agent, AIDE, has demonstrated the first evidence of recursive self-improvement. The system, designed as a research harness, was tasked with improving itself by modifying its own code and tooling, rather than rewiring its core 'brain'.
“So back in July, a new AI company based in London posted a very viral tweet on Twitter. It got about 1.8 million views, claiming to demonstrate the first ever evidence of recursive self-improvement.”
“But what if the system was only changing the code around the brain? Would that still count?”
“We care about the outcome. Like, does it actually improve the capability of the system, not a its specific layer?”
