Lucy Vanart was inspired by George Meegan, the first man to walk the length of the Americas. She decided to undertake the same journey, motivated by a desire to see more women achieving such feats and to contribute to closing the perceived evidence gap in gender equality.
“And in all of that, I discovered George Meegan, who was the first man to walk the length of the Americas.”
“And, uh, I thought, oh, well, that happened pretty much the year after I was born, where the ladies at? And then there were none.”
“And it just the frustration that we growing up being told that girls can do the same as boys, but not seeing the evidence in in real life. I wanted to contribute to making that lack of evidence the smallest possible.”
