Chris Whalen believes the Federal Reserve's credibility is low, and their actions, such as a 25 basis point hike, are inconsequential to market movements. He argues that the Fed is 'redundant' and cannot significantly influence the market unless they engage in direct, large-scale security purchases, which he doubts would be helpful.
“It's about their credibility, Julia. That's all they're doing. I don't think they're having any real impact on things.”
“I think so. Unless the Fed is willing to come in and start directly purchasing securities in size, uh, there's not much they can do.”
“The only institution that can manipulate the market is the Fed. But I don't think that's particularly helpful either.”
