Professor Steve Hanke notes a potential conflict between Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and President Trump regarding interest rate policy. While Trump has advocated for lower rates, Warsh appears to be leaning towards a more disciplined, rules-based approach consistent with monetarism, even if it means diverging from presidential preferences.
“He was nominated by Trump. He has gone against Trump, as well as the other 11 members of the, uh, open market committee. And so you have a conflict between the White House and the Fed.”
“Warsh will stand tough. He didn't only increase the rate, but gave, but given everything Warsh has been saying, I think he thinks he's going to dig in.”
