Enrica Monzani, a local expert, emphasizes that walking is the most authentic way to experience Cinque Terre, with 130 kilometers of trails connecting the villages. This allows visitors to appreciate the diverse landscapes, from vineyards to woods, and the symbiotic relationship between humans and the terraced land.
“But walking is very important because the tissue, the nets in between these lands is made by paths, by trails. And there are 130 kilometres of of trails in the Cinque Terre Park. And so walking is essential. It was in the past for connecting the villages one with the other. And it's essential nowadays if you want to experience that area in the most authentic way, you have to walk.”
“And when you walk in Cinque Terre, especially because there is this altitude, these different levels, you can see different habitats and different landscapes. So you have the vineyards and then you have the olive groves and then you walk in the woods. And you always have the sea just below you.”
“If I have to say what's the best way to visit Cinque Terre, walk.”
