Following the Mars mission, NASA plans multiple nuclear-powered missions (SR-2, SR-3, SR-4) to explore moons with oceans, such as Enceladus, Europa, and Titan. These missions will push the boundaries of high-temperature materials, efficient power conversion, and advanced propulsion systems. The goal is to investigate the potential for life in these extraterrestrial oceans and use the technology developed for these deep space explorations to benefit life on Earth.
“There will be lots of nuclear missions, SR-2, SR-3, SR-4 alongside our industry partners, we will push the boundaries of high-temperature materials, more efficient power conversion, reduced radiator mass, and higher performance electric propulsion as we visit some of the most interesting moons, like Enceladus, Europa, and Titan.”
“These are worlds with oceans, with complex chemistry, and perhaps the ingredients for life.”
“We could answer the question: Are we alone?”
