Jordi expresses skepticism about the ability of open-source AI models to compete with frontier models, emphasizing the significant compute power required for cutting-edge development. He cites his personal experience migrating to frontier models like Astra for tasks such as market backtesting and GitHub repository deployment, finding them error-free and highly efficient. Jordi believes that while open-source models may try to distill the advancements of frontier models, they will consistently lag behind due to the inherent compute advantage of larger, well-funded labs.
“No, no, no. So I don't think that's the entire story. I really do believe that, uh, they want more regulatory side. These two groups are ahead. I'm not a believer in open source being able to compete in any way with these models. They're way, way above. Um, and I don't care what anyone says. I mean, I've migrated off of most of the Chinese models that I was using on my Mac Minis and I've just started to use, um, the frontier models for everything.”
“Astra to me, changed my life last week. And I've said that with multiple models, but last week I built some things from a back testing perspective on the market. I'm doing things in crypto in the exact same way. I uploaded a repository to GitHub and had all my subscribers be able to go out and use it with one click.”
“So I think these guys have multiple motives at this point. I do agree with Chris that the liability side is something that they're starting to worry about more, um, because it's out of their hands. And we don't have a regulatory framework of what'll deal with this.”
