Danielle DeMartino Booth expresses concern that the current hype around Artificial Intelligence is masking significant risks in the broader economy. She points to bankruptcies of companies bought by private equity, like HVAC and nursing homes, and high interest rates on credit as indicators of trouble.
“I think there's a lot of froth in the market right now, and I'm always interested in what the hyper-scalers are doing. I think there's a lot of AI hype right now. I think there's a lot of hype around AI.”
“And I think that's masking over the real risks that we're seeing in, um, in the broader economy. And I think that's also, um, leading us to be overly optimistic. So, I think we're in a lot of trouble.”
“Given demographic trends, I certainly don't like to see things like an HVAC company that was bought out by private equity going bankrupt.”
