AI Safety Researcher Resigns, Citing Existential Risk and Running Out of Time

Bilal Chughtai, a safety researcher at Google DeepMind, has resigned, stating he "earnestly believe[s] that AI has the potential to kill us all, and that we might be running out of time to avoid this outcome." He is now working with blue.impact, a nonprofit focused on AI safety. Chughtai is the second such researcher to publicly voice concerns this month, following Jacob Coxon's resignation from Anthropic.
