Jeffrey Gundlach observed a concerning shift in the narrative surrounding AI, moving from strong belief to concerns about its potential negative impacts. He drew a parallel to the perceived success of private credit a year ago, noting that newly reported numbers suggest previous performance figures were inaccurate.
“This is sort of strange behavior where something's rolling along and there's great belief in it, and a lot of money being made in it. And then the narrative changes in a fairly radical way. This is going to kill us all.”
“And that, that's always interesting when something goes from being widely supported to the cracks start to show. It's kind of like, how how it was when a year ago, everything changed regarding the perceived success of private credit.”
“When, you know, the numbers have been reported, and looking back now, it's fairly clear that the numbers reported a year ago were not accurate. Which means that the performance reported for the last few years is not correct.”
