James Hammond explores the challenge of finding a balance between the desire to travel and the need for domestic routine, contemplating a personal ideal of 60% travel to 40% home life. He notes that even enjoying local activities like park runs doesn't sustain the contentment for long, emphasizing the constant need to analyze and adjust this balance.
“So where's the medium? Where's the happy middle place where you can do just enough travel to keep that burning desire to a nice level and fulfilled? And the need for a break to pause and reflect.”
“And I think I am 60/40, 60% travel, 40% at home. Because I had the feeling this time around for the first time maybe ever, where I enjoyed coming back to Vancouver and going out for a walk, going to a local cafe, seeing some people at the park run. And I enjoyed it. But it doesn't last very long for me. Like I said, three weeks later, I'm back to wanting to go back.”
“So it's just constant analyzing, weighing up of what the happy medium is for me. And I'm sure we all have the post-trip blues, whether that happens very quickly, instantly, or it takes a bit of time to come in.”
