Mike Green asserted that the influence of passive investing on markets is the most critical phenomenon occurring today. Despite his efforts to share research and drive change, he acknowledged that the industry has not significantly altered its approach. He highlighted that while academic literature on passive investing is extensive, no firm has been built to fully exploit its implications.
“But the influence of passive investing on markets is, in my opinion, the most important phenomenon that is going on. I've tried to share my research very freely on it with the intent of getting something to change. And the simple reality is nobody's going to change it.”
“And not one firm was built to exploit it. And as a result, we have what I describe as the strangest thing that I can imagine.”
