Charlie O'Neal highlights that widespread cyberattacks fueled by AI, as some predicted, have not materialized. He attributes this partly to 'frontier labs' acting as an early warning system, allowing time for preparation. He cites Greg Brockman's use of Astro to harden OpenAI's code bases as an example of proactive security measures.
“A really good example of this is like, you know, the cybersecurity arguments that they've been making. They said, we worry that when AI got to this point or even the point that it was at six months ago, the world will be overrun by cyber attacks, and that just hasn't happened.”
“And a large part of the reason is that, you know, the frontier labs have kind of been the canary in the coal mine, they've understood where the models' capabilities are going to be at in six months for the open source.”
