Ski mountaineer Kit DesLauriers explains that her personal mission became skiing down mountains after a trip where she realized her passion was for the descent. She defines ski mountaineering as involving ski touring and then climbing steep sections with crampons and ice axes when skiing is no longer possible.
“But what I was really felt called to was to ski back down them and so that was my personal mission at that point.”
“Ski mountaineering is when it gets steep enough that you need at least crampons on your feet, you can’t get up it with skis on your feet.”
