Treasury Secretary Scott Besson's comments suggesting he has asymmetric information regarding interventions with the Japanese Yen have drawn attention. Peter Grandich interpreted these remarks as an administration willing to discuss and engage in activities akin to insider trading.
“On the Yen carry trade. We're going to be talking to our next guest about the implications of what the Treasury may do next, uh, when the bond market is signaling and what markets are signaling overall.”
“So, so when we intervene with the Japanese Yen, I have pretty good insight into what the Japanese, what the Bank of Japan's gonna do, what Japanese policymakers are going to do. And, uh, but, but if you can bet against me if you want.”
“This administration is not afraid to talk about inside a trading and do it. He's basically saying, uh, I'm using insight, uh, that you guys don't have. And, uh, beware that that can come back to bite you.”
