Campbell Brown believes the rise of AI like ChatGPT has made it clear that future generations will consume news primarily through AI interfaces. This presents a significant challenge for traditional journalism, as the financial incentive to create content may diminish. Brown notes that while her company Forethought AI is working on this issue, there is no clear solution yet, and the industry is in a standoff between AI labs and news publishers.
“And then as soon as ChatGPT was released, it was clear to me, I think in that moment, it became clear that this is going to be how my kids get their news and information. And that people like you are, you know, still doing your jobs and able to make a living, to do your jobs?”
“I don't have the solution just yet. I think we're in a bit of a standoff between the labs and the model companies and the news publishers who are still doing traditional journalism. And, you know, there's litigation, um, lots of people trying to be creative in how to think about it.”
