Eiffel Tower employees, including women who were allegedly told to avoid certain areas during a visit by a Hindu delegation, walked off the job on Monday. The SETE, the company operating the tower, confirmed the delegation requested limited interaction with women, a request deemed unacceptable by the mayor of Paris city center.
“On Saturday, a delegation from BAPS, that's a Hindu religious organization. I will try to say it, but please forgive me, and I'm not trying to be a horrible person, but I don't speak any of these languages. It's Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. They did a private visit of the tower. According to the tower's own staff and their union, female employees were pulled off their posts during that visit. Some were replaced by men. All the women working that day were told not to walk through certain areas while the group was there.”
“The company that runs the tower, the SETE, actually confirmed the delegation had asked for a visit that limited, and I'm quoting here, "Interaction with women."”
“The president of the SETE organization, Ariel Weil, is also the mayor of Paris city center, one of the mayors of Paris city center, said that's obviously not an acceptable practice, and promised to investigate.”
