Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly explored a radical plan, codenamed Project OT, to significantly reduce headcount by up to 60% across various teams, intending to replace human employees with AI. The plan envisioned an AI-native future for the company, with virtual workers overseen by smaller teams of human staff. However, Zuckerberg ultimately called off the planned November cuts after internal data suggested the AI technology was not delivering expected productivity gains and was causing technical issues.
“So according to Reuters, Mark Zuckerberg has been so AI-pillled, he floated slashing headcount on teams across Meta by around 60% to replace them with AI.”
“Code named Project OT, short for organization transformation, the plan envisioned an AI native future for the owner of Facebook and Instagram.”
“With pressures piling up, Zuckerberg changed course. Hours before Meta carried out its first wave of Project OT layoffs on May 20th, he conferred again with his top lieutenants and called off planning for the November cuts.”
