Chris Mayer, author of '100 Baggers', discusses his new book, 'The Investor's Odyssey,' which explores the principles of long-term investing. He uses a story about an early Berkshire Hathaway investor to illustrate the power of making a single decision and sticking with it, leading to significant wealth accumulation.
“She basically made one decision, which is to buy this stock and just left it alone. And, uh, she's got a track record that beats, you know, most every active manager anywhere on the planet.”
“So it got me thinking about, well, what is, you know, what's a good investor? What's real? What's, you know, we say, someone's a good investor, what does that mean really?”
“And then I was thinking, well, if long-term investing is kind of like a journey. And, uh, we were talking a little bit before we got on the air that, you know, I had read the latest translation of the Odyssey last past year that came out, uh, one by Daniel Mendelson. And so that was in my head as well, while I was writing this and sort of inspired thoughts about how, yeah, all the obstacles to holding on to a stock for a very long period of time.”
