Thoughtful Money with Adam Taggart · Saturday, September 12, 2026
Host Adam Taggart and guest Lance Roberts discuss the market's reaction to the CPI report and the Federal Reserve's potential interest rate hike. Roberts expresses skepticism about a rate hike next week, citing upcoming PPI revisions, oil price volatility, and already restrictive Fed fund rates relative to core inflation. He believes the Fed should wait for clearer economic signals before adjusting rates.
“So we've really introduced a lot of gambling into the markets, and that's gonna, we're gonna pay for that in the future.”
“I don't think the Fed hikes. And, you know, there's kind of three reasons that I don't think they hike next week. I'm not saying that they won't hike any, you know, all this year, right? But I don't think they hike next week.”
“Thirdly is, and you take a look at core CPI and core PPI, those are basically running right at the Fed's target, um, you know, inflation at basically 2.5%.”
