Financial advisor Maggie Jondro emphasizes that midlife presents unique financial challenges and opportunities, making it a critical time to re-examine one's financial plan. Unlike earlier years where finances might be simpler, midlife often involves competing priorities such as children, aging parents, and more complex career assets like RSUs or IPOs.
“But in midlife, you're just faced head-on with a lot of different challenges. You may have kids, right? You may have gotten married. You also have aging parents, right? So a lot of competing priorities.”
“Also your finances can get more complex, right? In midlife, you might be in mid-career, that might afford you things like RSUs, ESPPs, really fancy acronyms for saying assets to your employer stock.”
“And lastly, I think what's really important about midlife and a big reason that you should be truly checking in your finances, is midlife is still when you have time to make meaningful adjustments.”
