Anthropic's head of economics, Peter McCree, revealed that AI tools like Claude are now capable of performing tasks in half of all US jobs, up from one-third a year and a half ago. This expansion indicates improving AI capabilities and broader adoption across various economic sectors. The average cost in terms of associated wages for tasks performed by Claude has also declined, suggesting its use in personal and less technical tasks.
“So if you look at how people were using Claude a year and a half ago, we saw that for about a third of all jobs in the US economy, a quarter of the tasks that people would do in those jobs were the sorts of things that Claude was already beginning to do a year and a half ago. Since that time, that number has risen from about a third of all jobs to half of all jobs.”
“Another way that you can see this is that the average cost in terms of associated wage of the occupation of the task that Claude is doing has actually declined since we first started tracking this a year and a half ago.”
“What this means is that people are using Claude not just for very technical tasks, but using Claude to help you, um, decide what to watch in the evening, using it for cooking related tasks, um, and other sorts of personal related activities.”
