Despite numerous hearings, bills, and bipartisan proposals since 2023, political will from congressional leadership and the White House is needed to pass AI regulation. Concerns about regulatory capture, where only large players like Anthropic and OpenAI can comply, are being addressed through tiered systems in proposed legislation, but the path forward remains dependent on political commitment.

There are a lot of proposals on the table right now and I think now it's a matter of the political will for congressional leadership and for the White House to get them across the finish line.”
