Home Depot combats organized retail crime (ORC) by focusing on sophisticated operations, using video analytics and intelligence gathering to identify patterns and repeat offenders. Scott Glenn explained that their internal teams, often comprised of former law enforcement, analyze data to distinguish high-value cases from isolated incidents, aiming to build comprehensive case files for law enforcement.
“And so we cultivate that intelligence. We cultivate those resources and report that back to our folks here. who are organized retail crime experts and do this for a living, most of whom are former federal law enforcement agents or law enforcement agents at state and local agencies.”
“So we have video analytics, we have other technologies that we work on to kind of say, okay, Now, I know this person. I know this car. I know this vehicle. I've seen them in store A. Now, I've seen them in store B.”
“And so that's how we try to like stitch these cases together and understand which ones are the ones that are more valuable to pull on versus the ones that are like, this is really a one-time occurrence and this is not something that we need to spend a lot of resources on.”
