A report on The Verge indicates that phones, computers, and other electronics are becoming more expensive. This price increase is attributed, in part, to the high demand for manufacturing capacity driven by AI data centers. Manufacturers are reportedly increasing capacity but are currently recording record profits.
“Ronnie has a report on the site about why phones and computers, and lots of other things, are getting more expensive. It's not just that demand from AI data centers is sucking up all the manufacturing capacity. Okay, it is that, but it's not just that. Ronnie talked to a bunch of manufacturers. They are increasing capacity and putting a ton of money into it, but that's going to take a little while. And in the meantime, they're recording record profits. Everybody wins. Except for us.”
