Frequent Miler on the Air · Friday, August 28, 2026
Kevin shared his journey in the points and miles hobby, highlighting how he and his wife have taken 50 transoceanic business class flights using points and miles since 2018. He contrasted an early experience of erasing $600 from a flight with current capabilities.
“Kevin writes, we flew to Vietnam on Air France airlines in 2018. Great experience, but that's a long way in economy for two new retirees. I was able to erase $600 of the cost with a Barclay's arrival card bonus, which I thought was a huge win.”
“On Tuesday, we're heading to Belgrade via Istanbul on what will be our 44th flight across an ocean and business class. We've got flights booked to China, India and Europe, so next May, to Malta, will be our 50th flight in the front of the plane and all using points and miles. This hobby is still alive and working for us. Thanks and safe travels.”
“But what a wild difference between then and now, huh? It's it's amazing what this hobby brings possible. And it's also, I think, fun to shine a light on the fact that there's still so much possible. Because you know, every now and then, we we focus on the devaluations and I think it can be easy to fall into a sense of doom and gloom that all this isn't available anymore, that doesn't work anymore.”
