Over 100 technology companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, have issued a joint warning about a rapidly closing window to prepare for AI-enabled cyber attacks. The open letter, published by OpenAI and others, calls for collective action, urging AI labs to share their most capable models with critical infrastructure providers and for governments to fund and coordinate cyber defenses. Signatories expressed growing fears about the hacking capabilities of AI and the control AI labs have over their models.
“A wave of cyber attacks driven by artificial intelligence is coming and companies have a narrow window to defend themselves.”
“The letter said AI labs should provide their best AI models to organizations like hospitals and infrastructure providers so they can prepare and that governments should help coordinate and fund cyber defense.”
“The letter signaled that major companies are becoming increasingly fearful of the hacking abilities of AI and whether AI labs can fully control the behavior of their models.”
