The establishment of five new task forces by the Federal Reserve, including one focused on data collection, is seen as an encouraging development. The goal is to improve the methodology and timeliness of data used to inform monetary policy, addressing known issues with the current arcane collection methods and low sample sizes.
“Um, the one thing that is encouraging to me is the establishment of these task forces, these five task forces. And so one of the task forces is going to be centered on the collection of data and the data that's used to inform the Fed governance and therefore set policy, which we know is arcane in its collection methodology.”
“We know the sample size, the people that respond are way too low to be statistically significant. So if there's any marginal improvement in the harvesting of information, in theory anyway, that would be really, really helpful, I think.”
