Chris Whalen discusses the potential for government restrictions on gold ownership during times of debt crisis, drawing parallels to FDR's actions in 1933. He suggests that holding physical gold offshore is the best way to protect against such risks.
“In the event of a dollar currency crisis or potential debt restructuring, do you see a risk of restrictions on gold ownership akin to those imposed in 1933?”
“Well, yes, is the answer. The only way you can really protect yourself is to have physical gold and keep it offshore.”
“Americans are always at risk because when the government has this much debt as we do today, all the assets in the United States are effectively compromised by that debt.”
