Nan and Marty Deniston share their favorite discoveries during their three-month stay in Avignon, highlighting Vaison-la-Romaine for Roman history and its medieval town, Arles for its historical significance, and Cassis for its seaside beauty. They also recommend lesser-known gems like Séguret and Oppède-le-Vieux for their picturesque settings.
“For me the top ones were Vaison-la-Romaine was excellent for people who like Roman history, and they also have a neat medieval town there. Gorgeous. Arles was incredible. We both loved Arles a lot. We liked Cassis. That was really a beautiful seaside town.”
“I also adored Oppède-le-Vieux, which is another lost little town where you walk up along a gorgeous trail. It was just magical.”
“Uzès is another one that, that fewer people go to that is completely worth going to. It's in the Gard, right next to the Pont du Gard, probably like 35-minute drive from Avignon, and it has a lot of things to recommend it.”
