The Spanish Armada, consisting of 137 ships and thousands of men, was sighted off the coast of Cornwall on June 29, 1588. England mobilized its fleet of 150 ships and prepared coastal defenses in anticipation of a Spanish invasion.

“The fleet consisted of 137 ships, 10,000 sailors, and 19,000 soldiers. Another 32,000 soldiers were stationed in the Netherlands and were poised to join the armada for the actual invasion of England.”
“The English staged their main fleet at Plymouth in June of 1588. All along the coast, 150 ships were ready. All but 34 of these were privately owned.”
