Sweeney: Small-Mid Cap Focus Driven by Management Quality

Matthew Sweeney explains his preference for investing in small to mid-cap companies, generally above a $1 billion market cap. He believes larger companies tend to have better management teams, more focused boards, and more engaged shareholders, which contributes positively to governance and overall returns.

Right now, the average position size, or average market cap size rather, is somewhere north of a billion.
Over time, specifically over the last couple of years, I've gravitated to be slightly larger. And that's mostly just due to my experiences with, um, the quality of the management teams.
There could be great management teams at any size, but broadly speaking, if you go on a little bit larger in market cap, I think you get a lot better management teams.
