The David Lin Report · Wednesday, September 2, 2026
The Energy Information Administration's (EIA) failure to release its June oil report due to system reconciliation issues has added to oil market volatility. This data quality problem is compared to the 2022 silver market event, which saw significant price surges, suggesting a potentially large impact on oil prices.
“So, if you were a public company and you announced that you couldn't reconcile your internal numbers with, let's say, your financial statements, your stock would fall 50% and the SEC would halt it and, you know, the exchange would halt it and you'd get investigated.”
“This is happening and I think that's actually contributing to this price move in oil today.”
“This is the most similar to what happened with the ComX with silver late last year which immediately preceded within a month. Silver prices doubled and silver miners especially small caps in some cases went up 5 to 10x.”
