A series of attempted break-ins at the DNC headquarters culminated in arrests on June 17th, 1972. The burglars were caught after a security guard noticed they had taped the door latches to prevent them from locking. The police found listening devices and evidence linking one of the suspects to the Committee to Reelect the President.
“This led them to try a fourth break-in on June 17th. During the break-in, the team put tape over the door latches so the door wouldn't lock.”
“Security guard Frank Willis noticed the tape and called the police. The police officers arrived just three minutes later.”
“Investigators also found that the burglars had used aliases and that one of the suspects they arrested worked for the Committee to Reelect the President.”
