Fairphone CEO Raymond van Eck clarified that while the company previously offered camera upgrades, their current focus is on repairability rather than component upgradability. He explained that for now, devices like the Fairphone 6 and 6 Plus will remain distinct with separate spec sheets, despite sharing many components.
“It's now mostly made to be repairable. In the past, we have for instance, camera upgrades, uh, when that still was a thing, I would say, uh, from the Fairphone 3 to the 3 Plus.”
“Uh, but the current hardware upgrades, uh, also on the 6 Plus, uh, are not elements which simply, uh, or which are simple to play with and to move between devices. Uh, so for now, these will remain two separate phones, for instance, the six and the six Plus, uh, with separate spec sheets, uh, and with a lot of shared components.”
