Southwest Discount Codes Retained on Flight Changes, Not Cancellations

Southwest Airlines discount codes, often received through debit or credit card benefits, are retained if a flight booked with them is changed. However, if the original flight is cancelled, the discount code is lost and not reinstated.

What I didn't know, I had to make some changes to plans this week and I had booked a flight using one of those promo codes and then we needed to change it.
So based on some reading I did on Reddit, I learned that if you cancel, if you book with a promo code like that, one of those promo codes in your account for 15% off or 20% off based on your card, and then you cancel, you lose the discount code.
However, if you change your flight, then it continues to apply the discount to the new flight.
