Rob Lea highlighted that some of his swimming expeditions included sessions with a therapist to help athletes cope with the emotional aftermath of their challenges. This support was available whether an athlete succeeded or not, acknowledging the potential for disappointment after years of training.
“One of the things that they did is for each one of these, we have a federation and a boat that we pay the boat pilot to take you across. And included in that price, um, we had a couple of sessions with a therapist to talk about the issues that were coming up.”
“And that's because, you know, you might, um, you might train for years on a swim, and what happens if you don't finish the swim? You're probably going to be pretty bummed.”
