China's approach to AI appears focused on rapidly proliferating open-source models to drive AI application adoption. This strategy is being observed globally, with questions remaining about whether China will adopt a purely capitalistic approach in the AI world or pursue a unique calculus. The effectiveness of open-source models compared to closed-source frontier models in the West is yet to be fully determined.
