Liquid AI has demonstrated the capability of running a 1 billion parameter model on an iPhone, showcasing its "liquid philosophy" for efficient AI. CEO Ramin Hassani mentioned that this model, featuring attention layers and a simple gated learned convolution, can operate fast enough for basic use cases like private document classification.
“Anyone who doubts can do a quick download and demo of Liquid's Apollo app, which shows in my experience that even a 1 billion parameter model, which combines a small number of attention layers with a very simple gated learned convolution, while admittedly far from the frontier, can run fast enough on an iPhone to be a real option for basic use cases, such as privately searching through and classifying one's own local documents.”
“And that they have developed at MIT, and which inspired them to start the company.”
