A listener named Mitsu reported that credit card travel portals are now offering significantly better prices for rental cars compared to AutoSlash. This trend, which has accelerated recently, includes notable savings on rentals from National and Hertz.
“I have heard you guys reporting occasionally that credit card portals sometimes are giving excellent deals on rental cars. But I have to say, I think this trend may be accelerating.”
“As a baseline, I started with AutoSlash for a two-day rental from San Francisco during a busy week. AutoSlash found $256 for National car rental and $290 for Hertz. But then I thought, let's try the portals. I was astounded. $215 from Chase for National, $200 from Venture X and get this, on City, it was $171. And on Capital One, it was the same for Hertz on Venture X. Taxes and fees included all in.”
“So all three of the credit card portals are around $400 to $500 compared to AutoSlash $615. That's a huge savings.”
