John G. Crane advised that hiking in Fiji, similar to other Melanesian countries, is highly controlled. Visitors need permission and must go with a guide or follow established routes, as unguided wandering is not permitted.
“And hiking in Fiji, as people have heard me before, I quite like hiking. Is very similar to other Melanesian countries. It is very controlled. You're not just going to wander off by yourself. You need permission, you need to go with a guide or along a designated route that they have, which is generally done by local community.”
