The Verge has undergone several logo redesigns, each tied to strategic format shifts. The original logo was designed for desktop websites, but with the move to mobile, finer details became difficult to render. Subsequent redesigns aimed to improve the logo's versatility across different platforms and design systems.
“Our redesigns, we've always done around format shifts.”
“So the original Verge logo had a bunch of serifs in it. It was designed for like a desktop website. Then we went to mobile, everything got small. The fine details were getting obliterated. So we made a change.”
“And then we made another change recently with this last redesign because that old logo was really blocky, was hard to lock up in all these places. We wanted to go all these other directions with our designs and colors.”
